PBS won't install using domain user when installer launched by local admin account

Description

underlined textPBS Pro 13.0.1 and 13.0.0 will not install on my altair laptop, trying to use the PROG\pbsadmin user. I get the message 'Failed to create PROG\pbsadmin: error status=2245'. 12.2.5 installs just fine on the same Windows 7 host using the same domain account. I am running the installer as me (scc, local admin) and NOT altering the 'pbsadmin' that appears in the installer dialog (that is, not adding 'PROG\' before it).

Steve S and Brian also reproduce the same behavior.

If you launch the installer AS pbsadmin, it completes successfully.

Hello Scott and Brian,

The issue was solved after a restart of the system. Apparently the system was not restarted for long. PBS mandates there be a system restart between each uninstall and install of PBS. Such issues are usually caused by some un-cleaned registry or environment variables. PBS 13.0.2 has a few more environment variables than 12.2.5 and apparently those were not properly cleaned.

Thank you.

Hi Chitra, I can confirm that I can install on the test laptop now as well, but I still cannot on my own laptop. I have rebooted after running the uninstaller, cleaned out the files in C:\Program Files, and checked the registry for leftover keys and looked at system and user environment variables.

I know that the very first time I attempted to install PBS Pro 13.0 on it it failed and I had not previously installed 12.x or any other PBS on it.

Exactly what needs to be clean off of the system before I reboot and make another attempt to install?

Thanks!

Hello Ian,

This is a syetem specific issue with 13.0.2. This should not be treated as 13.1 blocker.

This is high risk as of now.

Thanks!.

This slipped through the TEBG query, so TEBG will take this up in email.

In the meantime, Gajendra and Chitra, could you please explain why you think this is a system-specific issue - and what exactly you mean by that.

Also, when you say that this problem is specific to 13.0.2, do you mean that this does not affect 13.1.0.GA on any system?

Have you worked directly with Scott to diagnose the problem? If so, what did you learn? If not, could you please work with him directly independent of whether this bug is marked as under development or not?

Hi,

This is a sytem specific issue because:

1) PBS 13.0.2 installs successfully on all test buds systems.

2) In Brian's test machine WA-LAP14 13.0.2 still installs successfully with the new fresh OS installed.

Scott's system still has problems in installation which might be due to residual registry variables which could not be cleared. Therefore we can work upon the same and try to debug the issue as and when Scott's laptop is available.

Thank you.

Chitra.
